Portrait of Asim Waheed

About me

Hi, I’m Asim (/ˈɑːsɪm/). I’m pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, where I work on making machine learning systems more trustworthy. I’m part of the Cryptography, Security, and Privacy Group (CrySP), supervised by Florian Kerschbaum and N. Asokan.

See my work if you’re curious how I ended up here.

My research lies at the intersection of machine learning security, privacy, and fairness. I study specific points across this pipeline, with a recurring focus on how theoretical ideas interact and translate into real systems.

A central theme of my work is standardization: building frameworks, tools, and evaluation methodologies that make research results easier to reproduce, compare, and apply in practice. Through this, I aim to bridge the gap between academic research and industry by turning fragmented insights into usable, well-defined systems.
